Aosta è il capoluogo di regione della Valle d'Aosta. È situata nei pressi di località sciistiche e del Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso, caratterizzato da un giardino botanico alpino, sentieri e specie quali stambecchi e aquile. Tra le vestigia del passato romano figurano l'Arco di Augusto e la Porta Pretoria, che un tempo dava accesso alla città. Il complesso di Sant'Orso comprende un chiostro romanico e una prioria con una cappella affrescata.
